Sougara Yuzen paper is a type of traditional Japanese decorative paper that embodies the artistry and elegance of Yuzen dyeing techniques. Originating from Kyoto, Yuzen is a method historically used for kimono fabric, characterized by its intricate and colorful designs often inspired by nature, such as flowers, birds, and seasonal motifs.

Whether used for crafting, decoration, or as a thoughtful gift, Sougara Yuzen paper brings a touch of elegance and tradition to any project, making it a cherished item for art enthusiasts and admirers of Japanese culture alike.

In 1543, the first Europeans to visit Japan arrived. This print features the scene of the three Portuguese travelers aboard a Chinese ship who drifted ashore on Tanegashima, a small island near Kyushu. Portuguese merchants later started trade with the Japanese people bringing tin, lead, gold, and foreign textiles, until Christianity was banned from Japan in 1641, when they were replaced by the Dutch who didn't engage in missionary work.

This is a screen-printed print of a famous six panel screen depicting the arrival.
