Chiyogami papers are hand-printed using the silk-screen technique, in which each color is individually applied using a separate screen. Sometimes as many as 12 colors, including gold or other metallics, may be used to create a single pattern.

The full paper size may vary marginally, but the patterned area is always 24 in x 36 in surrounded by an unprinted border on all sides.
